SSL: Instructions For Pro IRC Hackers



UPDATE: As of July 1st, 2015, all of our IRC servers are using valid certificates.
Please make sure your clients no longer accept invalid certs!

Recommended clients

Apple OSX
   Because Apple crippled their own SSL/TLS handling in 2006, and the only patch they've made since just broke the old workaround. Do this, then find your IRC client.
   version 10.8 (Lion) and earlier: sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.crypto RSAMaxKeySize -int 8192
   version 10.9 (Mavericks) and later: sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.security RSAMaxKeySize -int 8192
   After running this command, you'll need to restart your computer!

irssi
   Step 1. Type /connect -ssl irc.wetfish.net
   Step 2. THAT'S IT LOL

WeeChat
   Step 1. Add the server: /server add wetfish irc.wetfish.net/6697
   Step 2. Enable ssl: /set irc.server.wetfish.ssl true
   Step 3. Now connect! /connect wetfish

mIRC
   Step 1. Download mIRC
   Step 2. Install it
   Step 3. Connect to irc.wetfish.net on port +6697 (With the plus sign)

XChat / HexChat
   1. Open XChat menu, then choose "Network List".
   2. Next, click on wetfish and Edit.
   3. In the "Server" zone, modify your line with : "irc.wetfish.net/6697"
   4. Then select the check box that says "Use SSL for all servers on this network"
   
Pidgin
   1. Go to the Accounts Menu
   2. Select Manage Accounts
   3. Add a new one
   4. Select "IRC" as your protocol
   5. Use "irc.wetfish.net" as your server
   6. Go to the advanced tab
   7. Use "6697" as your port
   8. Check "Use SSL"
