How to fix SSH so it disconnects without having to wait for an hour
nano ~/.ssh/config
ServerAliveInterval 20
ServerAliveCountMax 3
Edit your ssh client config file and add the ServerAlive config options. 20 x 3 = 60 seconds, so this config will make your ssh client after 60 seconds of inactivity. Set these values based on what works best for your situation. I like to keep it low on my laptop because SSH connections will drop when your computer wakes up from sleep and the default timeout is on the order of an hour or something. Aint nobody got time for that.
